Decorating an apartment

So I have found it extremely difficult to organize, and decorate my tiny little apartment. I have a little one bedroom apartment, that I share with my boyfriend. Now I am not complaining, I am extremely lucky to have found such a cute apartment that I can afford. Where I live real estate is really expensive. It is a cute little apartment. I have got my kitchen almost to a point that I like it. but its the one room I had some idea how I wanted it set up!
Now I am working on the living room. The problem with this room (as well as the bedroom and the bathroom) is that half of it is my boyfriends. So....how do i decorate without stepping on his toes? No offense to Shakespeare but I do believe this is the question!!! I Started by putting his stuff in and finding where he liked it and started arranging my stuff around where the remaining space is. Sufficed to say i am not happy with where I am at this point. I am trying to find ways to organize my stuff and set up the space.
And the one space that really bugs me?! Our tiny little closet! My boyfriend has soooo many clothes (More then me), so splitting the tiny closet is very hard. Then on top of that he has almost as many shoes as me! (and I do love my shoes). I have considered finding a shoe organizer that I can put on the ceiling! lol I need to utilize the space.
As I continue this venture I will follow up on here. Maybe I will be able to help someone.
Do you have any organization tricks??

  1. I have the space behind my bedroom door as my shoe rack. I think finding a way to make it decorative would be my goal. Right now it is just a shoe rack from Target, but there was a cute idea on Pinterest for cutting large PVC pipe into shoe sized holes and stacking them. I think it would be cool to paint it to match the decor or to contrast and then just use your shoes as decor.
